Episode 19: Moneda Moves

We would like to Welcome Lyanne Alfaro to share more about Moneda Moves and how she is bringing the Latino community's story to life.

Q: Lyanne can you share a bit about your background and Moneda Moves?

A: Lyanne tells stories about what’s next in the world of technology, business, and entrepreneurship. With more than $1.5 trillion in spending power, she's especially passionate about exploring the Latino influence in the world of business. She has even launched a weekly newsletter all about it called Moneda Moves (@monedamoves). Alfaro has reported via emerging platforms in English and Spanish, worked on audience engagement, strategy, execution, and enjoy taking stories from start to completion. Having worked as video, podcast producer, and host telling stories at the intersection of culture and business, she is set on delivering stories with impact in all stages of production. From strategizing, to production, distribution, and assessing analytics I take a holistic approach to storytelling. Currently, she is at Nasdaq on a small team that reimagines the way we tell stories. On any given day, she hosts live segments spotlighting entrepreneurs and thought leaders, book, produce live video content, and for Nasdaq's first podcast: Tomorrow's Capital. In her role, she also develops distribution plans and delivers analytics. Her team's storytelling work has been recognized by the likes of The New York Emmys, The Webby Awards, Digiday, and PRNews.

Q: Since you started this initiative has there been any common thread behind the success of the LatinX community?

A: Latinas are coming to the table sharing knowledge and really pushing collaboration. Although there has been a lot of entrepreneurship Latinos typically don’t exceed the $1M threshold in market capital

Q: Culturally we are taught to save and bank our little savings. Do you see the community exploring more financial risk by diversifying their investments?

A: Many in the Latino communities are still putting their money aside and some are unbanked which limits going beyond savings. We still need a lot of financial education in Spanish to help further investment.

Q: As you think about the rest of the year and 2021 what is next for Moneda Moves?

A: Continue to focus on storytelling especially during the pandemic since the Latino community has been severely impacted. Mondea Moves will focus on the newsletter, the podcast which is available on Spotify, Apple, And Anchor, and 2021 the website.

Thank you again for joining us and sharing stories about Latinos and money we may not immediately think of that are important to cover.  See you next time.
