Episode 04: Last Week April 2020

Hello friends! I am Laura Lucas and thanks for joining us on Pandocap. I hope everyone had a nice weekend. I want to say thank you again to our special guest that joined us on Friday Kimberly Nerpouni who shared insights on the current job market. If you missed it you can check out the tips on FB live or Instagram.

Also on Friday we had DraftKings, a Boston based fantasy sports company complete it’s SPAC listing on Nasdaq for a $3.3 billion merger. This SPAC was a combination with Diamond Eagle that went public last May on Nasdaq.

A SPAC is another way to access the public markets instead of a traditional IPO a SPAC stands for Special Purpose Acquisition Company. SPAC’s are shell or blank check company that have no operation but will intend to go public by merging with or acquiring a company with proceeds. In the DraftKings example the Blank check company was Diamond Eagle and they merged with DraftKings to complete the SPAC.

Kicking off the markets today up.
Dow 353 pts up 1.49%
S&P 41 pts up 1.45%
Nasdaq 95 pts up 1.11%

What is causing the rally today is optimism on the state reopening their economy, the second round of PPP and while all sectors are up today, the sectors leading are financials, real estate and Industrials which are contributing to the volume.

The market got to this upswing by mega caps leading, tech and of course healthcare that is the majority of what is holding up the markets.

IPO Side
We continue to see some biotech firms access the public markets this week with Lyra Therapeutics that will be listing on NASDAQ and is expected to raise $60 mill at $14- $15 a share.

Final Thoughts
I ran a poll on our social platform to get feedback from our community on whether the markets are having a V shape recovery and we had 92% of you say YES and 8% said NO. Thank you for participating!

Most of you are feeling positive about where things are headed on the economy and feel the markets will recover and regain their highs. I love positivity!

In my opinion I still believe there will be a slight pull back in the ending second quarter or in the fall based on the impacts that we haven’t accounted for such as consumer spending and which businesses will return.

I still believe we might see more of a W but either way I am grateful for the upswing to move in a positive direction.

See you Friday.

En Espanol
Hola amigos espero que pasaron una buen fin de semana. Hora la bolsa de valores está arriba

Dow 353 pts up 1.49%
S&P 41 pts up 1.45%
Nasdaq 95 pts up 1.11%
